English for Speakers of Other Languages Teacher Requirements
For a non-renewable, 1 year permit:
- Baccalaureate Degree; and
- 3 semester hours (or 30 clock hours at an approved professional
school association) in methods of teaching ESOL.
For a non-renewable, 3 year provisional license:
- All of the requirements for the permit;
- 3 semester hours (or 30 clock hours at an approved professional
school association) of additional coursework in methods of
teaching (this can be an additional ESOL methods course taken
in addition to ESOL methods course taken for the permit; and
- 1 year of approved teaching experience (or college supervised student teaching).
- All of the requirements for the provisional license;
- 3 semester hours (or 60 clock hours at an approved professional
school association) of coursework in methods of teaching ESOL
(this includes coursework taken for the permit and provisional
license); and
- 3 semester hours (or 30 clock hours at an approved professional
school association) of coursework in methods of teaching (this
includes coursework taken for the permit and provisional license);
and
- 1 additional year of teaching experience beyond the requirement for the provisional license.
