State Authorization for Title IV Eligibility

August 14, 2013

Based on the Department's conversations with the United States Department of Education, private career schools that receive the consent of the Commissioner or charter by the Board of Regents pursuant to Education Law Section 216 and who are licensed by the New York State Education Department pursuant to Education Law Sections 5001-5010 meet the requirements for State Authorization for Title IV eligibility.

When a school license is renewed, a separate letter will accompany the license stating that New York State meets the requirements of State authorization. When a private career school is issued a license pursuant to 5001-5010 of the Education Law, a letter will accompany the license saying that the institution has been approved by the New York State Education Department to offer post-secondary education.
