Policy Topics: Self-Employment and Home Modification/Adaptive Equipment

The New York State Office of Adult Career and Continuing Education Services-Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR), with the State Rehabilitation Council is providing a 2-year update for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Combined State Plan, specifically focused on the ACCES-VR component.

To assist in this update, individuals with disabilities, their families, advocates, employers and services providers are invited to attend the public meetings to provide comments. The public comment period extends from September 12, 2017 through November 1, 2017.

ACCES-VR works closely with the Department of Labor, Adult Education, the Commission for the Blind and other State and local agencies to build a workforce system that supports all individuals who are seeking work.

    Due to changes in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, ACCES-VR can no longer support a homemaker goal. Modest home modifications and adaptive equipment can be provided to assist participants with competitive integrated employment goals only.
