Director Applicants (Permit/License)

All BPSS school must have a least one director.  Education Law Section 5002(6)(a) states, in part, no person shall be employed by a private career school as a director or teacher who is not licensed in such capacity by the department pursuant to regulations of the commissioner, which shall take into consideration such factors as moral character, educational qualifications and practical experience.

The educational qualifications and practical experience requirements for a director are:

  • High School Completion or GED or TESC; and,
  • Any combination of the following:
    • 5 years of practical experience in program taught at the school
      or
    • 5 years of teaching experience in program taught at the school
      or
    • 5 years of administrative/supervisory experience
      or
    • Baccalaureate or higher degree in business administration, educational administration, or public administration

Director applicants are required to:

  1. Obtain an employee verification code from the school owner or current director
  2. Submit an acceptable and complete online application
  3. Upload acceptable educational documentation
  4. Upload acceptable work experience documentation

    An example of acceptable work experience letters would be a letter from a previous employer, on an employer’ letter head, stating the exact dates of employment, listing the job duties performed, job title, contact information of the employer, and signed by an acceptable representative of the business. (Please note, self-verification and resumes are not acceptable forms of verification.
     

  5. Have good moral character
  6. Pay the evaluation fee of $100

    An evaluation cannot be made without an application and non-refundable fee. Once the evaluation is performed, the fee is earned regardless of whether a director permit or licenses is issued.  Appeals of evaluations must be made in writing within thirty (30) days following the issuance of the evaluation.

  7. Pass a background check during the evaluation process

Licensed private career (LPC) school director permits are valid for one year from the date of issuance, non-renewable, and only valid at the school and address indicated on the certificate.  LPC school directors are required to take a (15) fifteen hour director to obtain a full licenses that is offered twice a year by BPSS.

LPC school directors that have taken and passed the directors’ course and all English as Second Language (ESL) school directors are issued a full director licenses that is valid from the day of issuance until the expiration date of the current school licenses.
