Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. Can the different sections of the new TASC™ test be taken separately (as was the case with the old GED® test) or do all sections have to be taken in one sitting?

Yes, candidates can take different sections (subtests) of the test separately. While it is no longer required that first time TASC testers take all five subtests, we strongly encourage first time testers to take the full battery of subtests in order to increase your chances of passing. You must pass all five subtests to earn a HSE diploma and candidates are limited to testing only three times/year. Once you pass a subtest, you need not take that test again. Also, keep in mind that any passing scores on GED® subtests taken between 2002 - 2013 can count toward your passing subtest. See the statement on grandfathering on our home page.

  5. What happens if I take all five subtests and don't earn at least 2500 total points, or if I don't score at least a 500 on all of the subtests?

If you do not score enough points to pass the TASC™ test, either on a subtest (500) or in total (2500), then you must retake the tests. You are required to retake those specific sub tests on which you did not score at least 500 points. Only the highest scores achieved from different test sessions will be kept and included in your total score. Although you do not have to retake the sections on which you score 500 points or greater, it is recommended that you retake several subtests in order to increase the total score.
