School must show that it has a BPSS teacher licensed as Primary Instructor (RN with 2 years practical experience caring for elderly and/or chronically ill).

DOH state exam through Prometrics. After approval, BPSS will notify DOH and Prometrics. The school will then set up testing with Prometrics.

School administers exam that follows DOH curriculum. Must use questions from test banks from approved publishers. Before starting the first class, BPSS and school must create a school DOH Commerce Unit account and Homecare Registry webpage for school to enter graduates.

However, a CNA with 1 or more years of full-time work experience within the past 5 years may go to a DOH licensed home care agency with a training program - and take a competency evaluation to obtain the HHA certificate.

Patient Care Technician (PCT) Student already has a CNA certificate and pursues training in EKG and Phlebotomy. The total number of hours will vary, with about 50 hours for EKG and 50-60 hours for phlebotomy.  School creates exam from BPSS approved curriculum. NYS currently (2016) does not have mandated curriculum for EKG and Phlebotomy.
